PAST YOGA WORKSHOPS
Tragedy to Trikonasana – July 2017
The sympathetic nervous system of the human body is designed to withdraw from pain. When faced with an actual or perceived threat our bodies respond with a fight or flight response. Additionally, psychological and physical trauma can alter the bodies fight or flight response and heighten threat perception. Over the last seven years I have endured personal loss, physical injury, and betrayal. My recovery from the physical and emotional injuries I have sustained was nurtured by my study of the Iyengar yoga tradition. This workshop will explore how Iyengar yoga requires both physical and mental introspection. Topics of discussion will include background about Iyengar yoga, poses, and the yoga sutras. Simply put, this workshop will explain not, “how yoga can help you overcome trauma” but instead “what Iyengar yoga did for me.” Yoga newcomers and veterans are welcome as this will not be an asana practice.
Yoga and Your Moon Cycle- July 2017
Menstruation is a regular part of women’s lives and provides an opportunity for rejuvenating physical and spiritual growth. For those who experience discomfort related to their period, the resulting fatigue and aches can keep us from our yoga practice or daily routines. Alternately, the Ayurvedic tradition considers women’s monthly cycle a blessing that allows a monthly mechanism to release toxins from our bodies. This workshop is suitable to all levels, even those new to yoga, and will empower women to understand poses that are safe to practice before and during our monthly cycles. Be prepared to remove your shoes and please wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in.

Kid and Parents Yoga -September 2016
In Yoga a Gem for Women, Geeta Iyengar discusses that asana practice can be empowering for adolescents. She states that, Yoga develops (her) physiologically, psychologically, morally, and spiritually to grow healthily and to lead a pure life. The ages twelve to fourteen are ideal to begin Yoga. This does not mean that yoga is to be commenced only at that age and not before. On the contrary if one begins earlier, around the age of eight, it is good: but little ones should not be forced to be too serious. It is sufficient if the child is introduced to Yoga in a playful manner with the purpose of creating interest so that a foundation is laid (p. 46.).
This workshop is designed for adults to share their love of yoga with youth in their life. Participants should wear comfortable exercise clothing that allows free movement. The emphasis of this workshop is asana practice and participants will be acquainted with introductory standing poses.
