Dr. Chris Cruz-Boone has been teaching full-time in higher education since 2006 and has been a speaker at dozens of professional education conferences. In the 2019-2020 school year, she was accepted as a Stanford University Community College EPIC fellow. In 2023, she was selected as the Higher Educator of the Year by the California Teacher Association.
She served on the statewide Board of Directors of the California Faculty Association from 2012-2017. In 2013, she was elected as a delegate to the California Teachers Association general assembly and was elected five more consecutive years and was appointed to the CTA Early Childhood committee. In 2016, she was an appointed delegate to both the International Convention for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and National Education Association (NEA). From 2020-2022, she served as the Director to Area D to the California Community College Association statewide board. In 2021, Dr. Chris Cruz-Boone was elected as a delegate to the California ADEM for Assembly District 34. In November of 2020, she successfully unseated the incumbent and was elected Trustee of Area 3 Bakersfield City School District. In 2022, she was elected as the President of the Bakersfield City School District School Board.
